CARE AND PREPARATION – ERYNGIUM (THISTLE)
DIY Bulk Flower Guide

Eryngium, also known as thistle, is a hardy and long-lasting flower that requires minimal preparation. Please follow these steps carefully upon receiving your flowers:

  1. Unpack immediately. Remove the flowers from the box as soon as they arrive.
  2. Remove outer packaging. Take off all outer packaging and protective sleeves.
  3. Minimal cleaning required. Eryngium typically has little to no foliage on the lower stems, so minimal cleaning is needed before placing in water.
  4. Handle with care. Eryngium can be slightly prickly, so handle stems carefully when preparing and arranging.
  5. Prepare clean water. Fill a clean bucket or vase with fresh water. Add floral food and stir until fully dissolved.
  6. Trim the stems. Cut approximately 1–2 inches off the stems at an angle using sharp floral shears or a sharp knife.
  7. Hydrate properly. Place stems immediately into water and keep them in a cool area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  8. Very durable flower. Eryngium is known for its excellent vase life and holds up well in both fresh and dried arrangements.
  9. Daily care. Change the water regularly and re-cut stems as needed to maintain freshness.
