CARE AND PREPARATION – BIRDS OF PARADISE
DIY Bulk Flower Guide

Birds of Paradise are striking tropical flowers that require warm conditions and proper hydration to perform well. Please follow these steps carefully upon receiving your flowers:

  1. Unpack immediately. Remove the flowers from the box as soon as they arrive.
  2. Remove outer packaging. Take off all outer packaging and protective sleeves.
  3. Minimal cleaning required. Birds of Paradise typically have no foliage on the stems, so no leaf removal is necessary before placing them in water.
  4. Prepare clean water. Fill a clean bucket or vase with fresh water. Add floral food and stir until fully dissolved.
  5. Trim the stems. Cut approximately 1–2 inches off the stems at an angle using sharp floral shears or a sharp knife.
  6. Hydrate properly. Place stems immediately into water and keep them in a warm area, away from cold drafts or refrigeration, as these tropical flowers are sensitive to cold temperatures.
  7. Help blooms open if needed. Birds of Paradise may arrive with blooms still inside the bract and sometimes require gentle assistance to open. You can carefully help the flower emerge if needed. For a demonstration, watch our video here:

  8. Daily care. Change the water regularly and re-cut stems as needed to maintain freshness.
